Dr. Luis Rabelo and Dr. Jose Sepulveda

Dr. Luis Rabeloand Dr. Jose Sepulveda have been awarded many prizes in the area of Simulation:

The One NASA Award (2006) given by NASA for the work in Simulation with different centers at NASA in particular with NASA Ames Research Center and NASA Kennedy Space Center.

Dr. Luis Rabeloand Dr. Jose Sepulveda have received several grants from NASA Ames Research Center, NASA Kennedy Space Center, and NASA Johnson Space Center to study innovative schemes in Distributed Simulation, Usability of Simulation Environments, and the modifications/extensions to the High Level Architecture for Aerospace/Aeronautics problems.

Dr. Luis Rabelo graduated in the last 6 years more than 12 MS students (with MS Theses)  and more than 10 Doctoral Students as PI and Co-Pi in Simulation areas.

Dr. Luis Rabelo and Dr. Jose Sepulveda have worked for Lockheed Martin in the distributed simulation of the Undersea Unmanned Vehicles Program.

Dr. Luis Rabelo has published in the last 5 years 18 Journal Papers and more than 32 Proceedings papers in areas related to Simulation.

Some of the awards from publications:

Sala-Diakanda, S.,  Rabelo, L. and Sepulveda, J. *Spaceport Simulation Models Integration,* SAE 2007Transactions, Journal of Aerospace, Vol. 115, 2007. It was judged and named by a panel of engineering experts as one of the most outstanding SAE technical papers of 2007. In addition, it got the award of Best Presentation.

Alvarez, H., Solis, D., Rabelo, L. and Cano, A. *System Dynamics Simulation of the Expansion of the Panama Canal,* International Journal of Technology, Policy and Management (IJTPM) (Accepted for Publication).

Rabelo, L., H. Eskandari, T. Shaalan, M. Helal, *Value Chain Analysis Using Hybrid Simulation and AHP*, International Journal of Production Economics, Issue 2, Vol. 105, February 2007, pp. 536-547. This paper was considered one of the TOP 25 articles from www.sciencedirect.com for the year of 2007.

Marin, M., Rabelo, L. and Sepulveda, J. *Spaceport Simulation Models Integration,* SAE 2004 Transactions, Journal of Aerospace, Vol. 114, July 2006. It was judged and named by a panel of engineering experts as one of the most outstanding SAE technical papers of 2005.

Rabelo, L., Sepulveda, J., Compton, J. and Turner, R., *Simulation of Range Safety for the NASA Space Shuttle,* Aircraft Engineering and Space Technology Journal, Emerald Journals, ISI Journal Volume 78, Number 2, 2006, pp. 98-106(9). Every year Emerald invites each journal's Editorial Team to nominate what they feel has been that title's Outstanding Paper and up to three Highly Commended Papers from the previous 12 months. The paper "Simulation of range safety for the NASA space shuttle" published in Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal was included among these and has been selected as a Highly Commended Winner at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2007.

Sala-Diakanda, S., Rabelo, L. and Sepulveda, J. *On the Development of a Comprehensive Hazard Modeling Tool through Distributed Simulation: Learning from the Columbia Space Shuttle Accident,* SAE 2004 Transactions, Journal of Aerospace, Vol. 114, July 2006. It was judged and named by a panel of engineering experts as one of the most outstanding SAE  technical papers of 2005.

Rabelo, L., Sepulveda, J., Moraga, R., Compton, J. and Turner, R., *Disaster and prevention management for the NASA shuttle during lift-off,* Disaster and Prevention Management Journal, Emerald Journal, 2006, Volume: 15 Issue: 2 Page: 262 - 274. This article was one of only 10 noteworthy articles selected by the Managing Editors for inclusion in August 2006 Monthly Highlights on the Emerald website - please see http://www.emeraldinsight.com/Insight//. Each month Emerald publishes on average 450 new research articles and case studies, and only 10 are featured in the Monthly Highlights.

Sepulveda, J., Rabelo, L. and Compton, J.  A Distributed Environment for Analysis of Events Re
lated to Range Safety, SAE 2004 Transactions, Journal of Aerospace, Vol. 113, July 2005, 1517-1521. This paper was selected to receive the 2004 Arch T. Colwell Merit Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This paper was selected from 2,677 which were published for SAE meetings during 2004. Papers are judged for their value as contributions to existing knowledge of mobility engineering, and primarily with respect to their value as an original contribution to the subject matter
